SOUTHWEST MIAMI-DADE, FLA. (WSVN) – A police-involved shooting overnight in a Southwest Miami-Dade neighborhood has left one person dead, officials said.
Miami-Dade Police units responded to a call about a shooting along the 7600 block of Southwest 153rd Court, at around 10 p.m., Friday.
“As the officers were approaching the scene, they noticed a vehicle traveling southbound on 162nd Avenue that matched the description of the subject vehicle,” Miami-Dade Police detective Alvaro Zabaleta said.
Investigators said officers tried to stop the car.
“They attempted to conduct a traffic stop, the subject refused and continued to flee westbound on Kendall Drive,” said Zabaleta.
Police said the driver eventually lost control of the car and crashed into a construction site.
It was there where, detectives said, the situation escalated.
“There was a confrontation, shots were fired,” said Zabaleta.
The subject was struck multiple times and was pronounced dead at the scene.
“Any time there’s firearms involved, obviously it’s a very dangerous situation, it’s an uncontrolled environment. You have an individual who’s already shot at somebody, struck somebody, and of course, is going to take brazen acts if, in fact, he’s confronted, so it becomes a very dangerous situation, a very volatile situation for the officers,” Zabaleta said.
A male victim from the original shooting was taken to a nearby hospital in stable condition. No officers were injured.
Police have not identified the subject or the victim, as they continue to investigate,
