Firefighters put out boat fire at marina in Miami

MIAMI (WSVN) – A boat has been destroyed after it caught fire at a marina in Miami.

Officials received several calls about a boat fire that broke out at Sea Isle Marina, located at 1645 N. Bayshore Dr., at around 11 a.m., Thursday.

Cellphone video captured the burning 46-foot cabin cruiser and thick black smoke billowing into the sky over Biscayne Bay.

“I woke up this morning, and this thing was just engulfed in flames. It was crazy,” said witness Josh Fogel.

7News cameras captured the charred and melted vessel on the water after the fire was put out.

According to Miami Fire Rescue, a boat captain spotted the flames and managed to move a second boat away from the blaze to prevent the fire from spreading.

Units from City of Miami and Miami-Dade Fire Rescue rushed to the area by boat to get the situation under control.

“There were no reports of anyone inside. There were no reports of any injuries, and no other boats were damaged,” said Miami Fire Rescue Lt. Pete Sanchez.

“Thank God no one got hurt, but it’s not something you see every day,” said Fogel.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
